Most crypto checkout pages were designed for desktop: show a QR code, let the customer scan it with a phone wallet. But a growing share of customers are already on their phone when they reach checkout. Scanning a QR code on the same screen is impossible. Mobile checkout needs a different design.
Detect the device
On desktop, show the QR code prominently with the address and amount below it. On mobile, show a "Pay with wallet" button first and the QR code second.
Use wallet deep links
Payment URIs allow a button to open the customer's wallet app with the address and amount pre-filled. Support varies by wallet and network, so always show a fallback: the address and amount with copy buttons.
Make copying easy
Separate copy buttons for address and amount reduce errors. Show the network clearly next to the address.
Keep the page alive
Customers switch to their wallet app and come back. The checkout page should still show the order and update its status automatically when payment is detected.
Timers
Show how long the price is locked, but allow enough time for switching apps.
Test on real devices
Test with popular wallets on iOS and Android, and with exchange apps.
Plugins help
Network selection on small screens
On a phone, a long list of coins and networks is hard to read. Show the most common options first, such as USDT on one or two popular networks and BTC, and put the rest behind a "More options" link. Use clear labels with network names and short explanations, for example "USDT (TRC20) – low fees". Wrong-network payments are one of the most common support problems, and good labelling prevents many of them.
Confirmation screen
After payment is detected, show a clear confirmation with the order number, the amount received and what happens next. Send the same information by email. If the payment is still waiting for confirmations, say so and explain roughly how long it will take.
Accessibility
Use large tap targets, readable font sizes and sufficient contrast. Make sure the page works in both portrait and landscape orientation and with system dark mode.
Analytics
Track how many mobile visitors start crypto checkout and how many complete it. If completion is much lower on mobile than desktop, the flow needs work.
On Shopify and WooCommerce, a good plugin handles most of this. PandaWM's gateway, run by a Hong Kong MSB-licensed company for overseas merchants, supports web and mobile at a 1% fee with open-source plugins. See our Shopify crypto payments guide.
